Improve Gas Mileage by over 13%

Two simple steps can save you hundreds of dollars each year in gas costs

Instead of driving all over town looking for cheaper gas, consider this: A little more air in the right places can save you a lot of gas — and money. It is simple: More air in your tires, and a clean air filter. And this money-saving tip won't take you even 15 minutes a month.

Change that Air Filter…

You can increase gas mileage up to 10% just by changing your air filter, according to the EPA's FuelEconomy.com site. The air filter is a piece of thick corrugated paper with a rubber ring around it. And boy, does it get dirty. This dirt prevents your engine from getting enough clean air. It's very easy to change the air filter on many cars. Most filters cost $5 to $15. Two screws or a couple of clips, five minutes, and it's replaced.

Keep Tires Inflated…

The EPA estimates that for every 1 psi of under-inflation, fuel economy drops by 0.4%. That's not much, but if the tires are under-inflated by 8 pounds, that's a 3.2% drop in fuel economy. About 1.2 billion gallons of fuel are wasted annually due to under-inflated tires, the NHTSA estimated in 2005. One easy way not to lose air pressure in the first place is to fill your tires with nitrogen instead of regular air. Thousands of nitrogen fill stations exist all over the country and a nitrogen fill is usually under $20 bucks. Because nitrogen is a larger molecule then air

Save Over 13% on Gas Mileage

So, by changing your air filter and pumping up tires that were under-inflated by 8 pounds, you're likely to get a 13.2% improvement in your fuel mileage.

4 Inch Deep Lips on a Mini…When Pigs Fly!

The Mini Cooper is one of the smallest cars out on the road today. The Mini is also the perfect car to showcase the R1 Wheels Mass Lip Technology. The R1 Wheels Mass Lip Technology allows front-wheel drive cars to have that deep lip that they could never get before. The secret of the Mass Lip is that the Mass Lip rear wheel and the regular lip front wheel are the same width in order to maintain the correct suspension and transmission characteristics.

The face of the rear Mass Lip wheel though is shaped to allow for a lip size of up to just under 4″ deep. The result is a Mini with 4″ deep lips in the rear and an aggressive staggered look. R1 Wheels has 6 different models that come in Mass Lip fitments. The particular model on this Mini are 18″ R1 Racing Drift wheels in Gloss Black. Lastly, as with all R1 Wheels, the Drift comes in a stainless steel chromed lip. Who said when pigs fly?

Scion tC Drift Car with Enkei Wheels?

When someone mentions drifting, the Scion tC is one of the last cars that you would think of. To begin with the Scion tC is a front-wheel drive car which is the opposite of what you need for drifting. But this obviously did not stand in the way of a Toyota, RS*R, and Enkei team that created an incredible Scion tC drift monster.

The factory built front-wheel drive tC was turned into a drifting contender through a rear-wheel drive conversion performed by Japanese tuning and performance parts manufacturer, RS*R. To drift, the Scion tC was fitted with an all-wheel drive conversion. The Scion tC shares its platform with Toyota's Japanese market Avensis four-wheel drive and Caldina all-wheel drive, enabling it to undergo the conversion. Last but not least, the Scion tC is fitted with a set of hot Enkei wheels, Enkei RP03 wheels in SBC Chrome to be exact.

US Senator 22-inch Chrome Rims Stolen

If you did not hear about this a couple of months back, let this story be a cautionary tale on protecting your expensive custom wheels and tires. Anyone can get their wheels stolen at any time, so the best thing to do is make sure that you have wheel locks on each of your wheels. While this will not prevent someone from stealing your car, this will prevent them from stealing your wheels.

This is exactly what happened to Don Perata (D – Oakland). The Senator was driving his Senate-owned 2006 Dodge Charger set with 22-inch chrome wheels and a Candy Apple Red paint job when he was startled by a man knocking on his window… with a gun. The jacker instructed him to get out of the car. Perata was shaken up but otherwise fine.

Since the story broke a couple of months ago, the Senator's car was recovered. Surprisingly enough, it still had the wheels because each wheel had a wheel lock that the preps could not get off the wheels. Moral of the story is that a $40 set of wheel locks is the best investment you can make to protect your set of wheels and tires worth hundreds and maybe thousands of dollars. At rimsdealer.com we offer wheel locks for all our wheels. Wheel locks at rimsdealer.com start at only $20 per set.
